St Eunan’s won the Donegal Minor Camogie title under lights in Buncrana on Monday night.

St Eunan’s 4-10 Carndonagh 1-2

Led at midfield by captain Clare Doherty, St Eunan’s started the game at a ferocious pace. Doherty won the throw-in and drove through the middle, earning an early free. Alisha Tobin converted and went on to hit five of her six placed balls  in a wonderful display of skill throughout the game.

Laura Kealy controlled the game from midfield and delivered endless ball into the clinical forward line. Katherine Kelly, Eadaoin Kelly and Alana Brown all raised the green flag in the first half, with three well taken goals and Maria Kealy hit four points from play.

The pressure was relentless on Carndonagh.

St Eunan’s half back line of Sinead MacIntyre, Ailbhe Finn and Laoise Ryan were tested and they answered determinedly to keep the ball in the Carndonagh half. St Eunan’s led at the break 3-8 to Carndonagh’s 1-1 in what was a brilliant first half display of skill, pace and teamwork.

The second half saw  Carndonagh come more into it.

St Eunan’s netminder Siubhan O’Donnel stood strong with her super saves and puck outs. Shannon Doherty, Clodagh Ellison and Caoimhe Doherty were outstanding in the full back line, working the ball back out and starting the next St Eunan’s attack. All five subs made a valuable contribution when introduced. Niamh Harkin, cool as ever, scored the team’s fourth goal to seal the win.

Anais Doherty, Eimear O’Donnell, Blathin and Roisin Toland tried hard for Carndonagh throughout but the result was never in doubt.

This was a great win for this group of girls, many of whom have now won titles at u14, u16,  All Ireland Féile and now Minor levels
