Gardai urge motorists to be cautious as heavy wind and rain hits Donegal

Gardai in Donegal are urging motorists to be extra careful when driving on the road due to heavy rainfall today (Fri).

The heavy rain has already hit parts of the north west, with Met Eireann predicting up to 50mm rainfall accumulations will lash several counties over the next 24 hours.

The weather body has warned of a risk of localised flooding tonight as the rain turns heavy and persistent.

An Garda Síochána in Donegal have also urged motorists to drive safely and leave extra time for their journeys.

They said: “There is a weather warning in place from 6am tomorrow morning (Friday) until 6am Saturday morning.

“Drive slowly and be extra cautious as there could be a lot of surface water and you could easily lose control of your car on a wet road.

“Keep your lights on as weather will most likely be grey and dark. Leave extra time for your journey.”
