The number of people living in Donegal and along the border region has increased, it has been revealed.

According to new figures released this week by the Central Statistics Office, the population is estimated to have surged by 13,500 since the 2016 Census.

The rise in population comes following a 1.5 per cent decrease to 159,192 in the county between 2011 and 2016.

Meanwhile, the number of people living on the border region has increased from 393,000 to 4096,700, according to the latest CSO estimates for April this year.
