Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher has added his voice calling for a permanent bridge to be built to allow stranded Gaoth Dobhair families access to and from their homes.
The extended O Duibhir families from Bunbeg watched as the River Clady washed away a small bridge at the entrance to their homestead.
Deputy Gallagher said a replacement bridge in the area is needed.
He added that a footbridge is now in place to facilitate the family in the short term.
He said “Immediate repairs to or replacement of the bridge is urgently required to facilitate vehicular traffic in view of John’s illness.

“I am now calling on the current Gaeltacht Minister of State, Sean Kyne to visit Gweedore next week with a view to sanctioning the necessary funding.
“The Regional road which was closed earlier in the day at Meenalaugh has reopened.
Pat the Cope paid tribute to the Council Road Staff who responded to the calls early this morning.”
