Letterkenny Gaels finish season with thrilling victory over Urris

Letterkenny Gaels completed their league season with a good win in Crampsey Park, Clonmany on Saturday evening past.

Urris 0-11 Letterkenny Gaels 3-11

With both teams preparing for the Junior championship next weekend this game made for excellent preparation.

A Ciaran Kilfeather goal on eighteen minutes separated the teams at half time. Johnathon Noone was much the busier keeper in the first half as he made a succession of saves from Kilfeather and Brendan O Brien in the opening quarter.

Mark Hunter (3), Kilfeather (2) and Anthony Diver all hit points for the visitors in the opening half while Conor Bradley (3), Ryan Doherty, Johnathon McDaid and Oisin Hession replied for Urris.

Substitute Ronan Frain opened the Gaels account in the second half, but with the aid of the wind Urris responded with points from Ryan Doherty, a Noone ‘45 and a high ball that deceived the Gaels defence ended up in the net.

Midfielder John McCarron gave Urris the lead by the 47th minute.

The visitors were awarded a penalty with ten minutes remaining which was duly converted by Mark Hunter. Odhran McMacken with an excellent ‘45 into the breeze, Brian Diver and Ronan Frain all added to the Gaels tally while Conor Bradley added two points for the home side.

Gaels corner-forward Kilfeather capped off a good performance with a goal in the final minute.
