ORLAITH DOHERTY returned from injury to score a second-half hat-trick as Lagan Harps won the Donegal Women’s League Under-12 Highland Bakery Cup on Friday night.

Lagan Harps 6 Mulroy Academy 0

An early goal settled Lagan. With good passing movement. Sine Harris Ryan’s through ball four Orlaith Doherty, who laid it off for a long-range shot by Sophie Canning.

Mary Bridget McGeever got her hand to it, but the powerful shot went into the net.

Meabh Sweeney should have equalised for Mulroy minutes later with a long ball by Katie Shovlin but her shot went wide.

With conditions extremely wet the ball was skidding off feet and heads and this resulted in the second goal for Lagan when the brave Kaylagh Sweeney tried doing right thing by clearing the ball with her head but unfortunately went into her own net.

This didn’t dampen the spirits of Mulroy with Caoimhe McLaughlin going close only for solid defending by Scarlet Keys for Lagan.

Lagan started to dominate midfield with Niamh Ryan and Aishling Murgan working extremely hard but couldn’t see a way through Mulroy’s solid defending by Leah Roche, Caoimhe Friel and Clodagh Gibbons for Mulroy.

Amy Doherty was called into action with two minutes to go to half time from a fine effort by Lara Blaney.

Lagan continue to press forward with Sorcha Keys and Aileen Sweeney starting the attack’s from defence.

Orlaith Doherty, recently back from injury, got her hard earned hat-trick in the second half. Sophie Canning got her second from a fine Niamh Ryan cross.

Ellie McNeill wrapped up the scoring for Lagan with a volley into the net after a great cross by Tammy Gallagher.
