Motorists travelling through the Oldtown Road area of Letterkenny will face 11 more weeks of disruption due to sewerage replacement works.
While the traffic lights remain in operation at the Old Dunnes Stores roundabout, it has been revealed that the estimated completion date of works in the area is 16th November 2019.
Motorists will be getting a break from traffic tailbacks for the busy Christmas period. To reduce disruption during this time, the contractor will be required to stop operations at Oldtown by 18th November 2019 until 19th January 2020. Traffic flow will return to normal on the R250 during this time.
The details of the works were issued following a request by local Councillor Gerry McMonagle.
Irish Water said that the works on Pearse Road are now complete and are moving through Oldtown Road towards Lower Main Street.
The contractor will then move the operations to Crieve Road (Rockhill) on 18th November. The remaining works on Ballymacool Road / Convent Road will follow afterwards, with an estimated completion date of April 2020.
Meanwhile, the Irish Water works are continuing in Glencar, Letterkenny.
The 24 hour road closure finished at Glencar last Friday and a two way/traffic light arrangement is in place for works to be finished this week. The contractor will then move to the top of New Line Road to complete works towards the Willowbrook Estate using a traffic lights system.
