Rochford to extend Donegal stay as delegates give Bonner their blessing

STEPHEN ROCHFORD will extend his involvement with the Donegal senior football team into the 2020 campaign.

The Mayo native was recruited last winter by Donegal manager Declan Bonner and became a key part of the back room team.

Rochford was appointed as the head coach and players widely referenced his work over the course of the past season.

Rochford – who led Mayo to two All-Ireland finals during his time as manager there – agreed with Bonner about continuing in the role after the pair met following Donegal’s exit from the 2019 Championship.

At last night’s meeting of the Donegal county committee, delegates gave their blessing to Bonner and his back room team remaining in place for the 2020 campaign.

Bonner – who was given a three-year term when he succeeded Rory Gallagher in the summer of 2017 – delivered an end-of-season report to the meeting.

Donegal won the Ulster SFC and in getting promoted back to Division 1 of the League they also captured the Division 2 League crown.

Paul McGonagle, Karl Lacey, Gary Boyle and Andrew McGovern are also coaches/selectors on Bonner’s back room.
