Huge concern for farmers after Donegal Animal Hospital closure

Local farmers are facing serious challenges following the closure of the Donegal Animal Hospital.

The hospital in Letterkenny has been permanently closed by Independent Vetcare (IVC), it was confirmed yesterday.

The facility employed six vets and twelve staff, with two other clinics in Ballybofey and Gweedore.

The premises was temporarily closed on August 22nd by executives from IVC UK, who cited “staffing difficulties and other regulatory issues.”

But the now-permanent closure has left over 1,000 farmers without access to vital services and inspections.

The Donegal Animal Hospital opened in 2000 and the practice has been covering one of the biggest territories in Ireland, ranging from the Bluestacks to Fanad Head and from the Border to Carrickfinn with 1500 farm clients and 5000 pet owners.

The Tirconnaill Tribune reports that plans are already at an advanced stage by an independent source to open a practice near the Dry Arch Roundabout in the coming ten days.
