The competitive Maghery fife and drum band of the Maghery Band Academy are today enroute for their Tattoo debut at The Belfast International Tattoo.

The band, who now stand as 5-time All Ireland Champions, have had an eventful year that marks many milestones.

2019 marks ten years of training since the performers started out as a young junior band. Their East Coast USA Tour saw them perform on the iconic 5th Avenue St Patrick’s day Parade in New York, honored in Bayonne New Jersey by Mayor Jimmy Davis who officially declared 17th March 2019 as Maghery Band Day and parade through Universal Studios & Magic kingdom Disney World for 55,000+ spectators.

The band’s return from the States was followed by their third Easter Sunday win at Dungloe’s annual Band competition on Main Street Dungloe.

Their 5th All Ireland win in Drogheda was remarked as a ‘master class in the senior fife section’. They proudly paraded and performed in Drogheda’s streets before being featured on TG4’s Fleadh TV with Doireann ni Ghlacáin ; a first for any marching band visiting the Fleadh!

The band’s social media following is growing in strength thanks to their growing audiences which are now worldwide.
Following their Tattoo experience the band’s year will continue with performances at Glenties Harvest fayre Parade and competing again in Northern Ireland.

The Champions will be enjoying some downtime too as they celebrate their 5th Champions Ball in coming weeks and plans for their 2020 & 2021 schedules begin.

Their committee has the tough task of planning their future performances which at this stage are reaching as far as 2022. The band are very much in demand as they are being invited to represent Ireland in USA and Europe on not only the entertainment scene but now the competitive scene also. Their innovation and professional approach is driving them forward with recruits welcome at junior and senior level this autumn.

The academy will be announcing training schedules later this autumn and highlight the importance that their training in music and performance brings to individuals as well as communities as a whole. You can follow the updates for such @magheryband.

Belfast will be in for a treat this weekend as Maghery Band arrive in the city! Tickets are still available although limited via Ticketmaster or the Belfast International Tattoo website.
