The remnants of Hurricane Dorian could pass by Donegal next week with warnings of 80kmh gusts as the Category 5 hurricane crosses the Atlantic.
The UK Met Office is expecting the tempest to combine with Storm Gabrielle, bringing heavy rain in the coming days.
However, Met Eireann says that Irish weather will remain sunny and mild, with temperatures of 20C likely this weekend.
A forecaster said: “Tomorrow will be dry with long clear periods on Saturday night. Chilly, with lows of 5 to 9 degrees in near calm conditions.
“Sunday will be largely dry and bright with sunny spells. There will be a few outbreaks of rain in the west. Light breezes at first becoming moderate southwesterly.
“Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees. It will cloud up in western counties during the evening and rain will track across the country on Sunday night.
“Remaining overnight rain in the east soon clearing on Monday morning, followed by a mix of sunshine and showers.
“It will be a cooler day with top temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in moderate northwesterly winds, fresh at times near the coast.
“Tuesday is looking mainly dry with sunny spells. Later in the day or in the night rain is expected to arrive from the west with strengthening winds as well.”
