DARREN ASHMORE’S late double turned the Letterkenny Area Shield final in favour of Bonagee United as they saw off Whitestrand United at Dry Arch Park.

Aiden McLaughlin for the home side saw his header from a Noel O’Donnell throw in on five minutes saved by the keeper.

Daniel Stolarczyk for Bonagee saw his strike from twenty yards on 11 minutes just go wide of the post. Shane Mc glade for the visitors then saw his strike from the edge of the box on seventeen minutes just go wide of the post.

The visitors should have taken the lead on 28 minutes when Kevin Loughran headed wide at the far post from an Aaron Curran cross.

Aaron Wasson for Bonagee was a constant threat to the Strand defence and he shot wide on thirty-three minutes from just inside the box.

The visitors took the lead on 36 minutes when a cross from the left fell to Kevin Loughran and he shot home from fifteen yards. Aaron Wasson for the home side saw his shot, after he rounded the keeper on the edge of the box, cleared off the line on 37 minutes.

The home side started the second half on top and a good save by the visiting keeper from six yards on 50 minutes from a Noel O’Donnell header maintained the scoreline. He made another great save on fifty-six minutes from an Aiden Mc Laughlin headed from an Eamon Cannon cross.

Carr in the home goal also made a great save three minutes later when a cross from the left fell to Shade McGlade on the edge of the six yard box and he turned and shot for goal but Carr turned the ball over the bar.

The home side levelled the match on 85 minutes when a cross into the box was headed down by Aiden McLaughlin and Darren Ashmore shot home from five yards.

The final goal of the game came on 88 minutes when a long ball over the defence fell to Ashmore and he broke clear, his strike was blocked by the keeper and the ball broke loose and he hammered the ball home from 15 yards.

Team effort by both sides.
