McGettigan on fire as Naomh Conaill make light work of Dungloe

EOGHAN MCGETTIGAN scored six from play as Naomh Conaill steamrolled their way past Dungloe in a one-sided Donegal SFC clash at Rosses Park in miserable conditions this evening, writes Charlie Collins.

Dungloe 1-3 Naomh Conaill 2-16

In the end, the margin of the win was 16 points for the team from Glenties means their progression to the quarter-finals is not yet confirmed, although it would take an unlikely series of results tomorrow to oust them. Killybegs welcome MacCumhaill’s tomorrow.

Goals from Brendan McDyer and Kieran Gallagher in the second half aided Naomh Conaill’s win, with Hugh Boy having netted a first half penalty for the hosts.

That made the score 1-2 for Dungloe to Naomh Conaill’s 0-7. Charles McGuinness bagged two frees, whilst Eoghan McGettigan was on the mark four times by then and Dermot Molloy also found his range.

For Dungloe, Noel McBride scored twice and Dungloe were denied an early goal by Stephen McGrath in the visitors’ goal following a fine save from Conor Greene. Dungloe scored from the penalty spot on 26 minutes through Moy, when Adam Neely was fouled.

McGuinness’s third free of the half made it 0-8 to 1-2 for Naomh Conaill, who had played against the wind and up the hill as they say at Rosses Park.

Naomh Conaill scored an uninterrupted 1-5 at the start of the second half to confirm their dominance, with, again, McGettigan, McGuinness and Molloy the scorers. The goal came on 42 minutes when McDyer finished well when faced with Danny Rodgers.

McBride got Dungloe’s third, only for Martin Regan’s team to hit back with McDyer, Molloy, Ciaran Thompson and Gallagher rounded off the routine win with a scrappy late goal.
