THREE-TIME European medalist Mark English will compete at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha after all – and described himself as ‘thrilled and relieved’ at the news.
English’s chances looked to be over with the IAAF’s start lists not including the name of the Letterkenny man.
English – who was .04 seconds away from the qualifying time last month – has received confirmation tonight that he has been invited via the quota system.
Just this morning, English had hit out at the selection process, but the 26-year-old has got his chance at a fourth World Championships of his career.
Earlier this year, English won bronze at the 2019 European Indoor Championships in Glasgow and followed that up with his latest Irish senior 800m title.
The UCD AC man, who qualified as a doctor this year, ran 1:45.98 to win an 800m in England last month having come from nowhere to take an eye-catching 1:45.94 win at a Diamond League meet in Birmingham.
English confirmed his selection on Twitter.
