Another traffic light system will be put in place at Lower Main Street Letterkenny next week as Irish Water works progress in the area.
From Monday 7th October, a three-way traffic light control will be placed at the Lower Main Street Roundabout. This is expected to last between one and one and a half weeks.
Traffic on Oldtown Road and the Lower Main Street has had significant disruption this year due to pipe laying works under the Letterkenny Sewerage Scheme.
Local residents and businesses had hoped that traffic lights would not return until after Christmas, however Irish Water say that works along R250 near the Old Town Bridge Roundabout have progressed quicker than anticipated.
The ongoing pipe laying and reinstatement works outside Old Dunnes Stores will be completed by Monday, before Phase 8 begins at Lower Main Street.
Irish Water has confirmed that the next set of traffic lights will be manually operated during working and peak hours (Monday-Sunday).
Once Phase 8 is complete, the 9th and 10th Phases will be carried out across the Convent Road Junction. This will involve another set of temporary traffic lights.
The Lower Main Street of Letterkenny is one of the town’s busiest areas at key times of the day – during school mornings and in the evenings. Irish Water has confirmed that no works will be allowed in the area during the peak Christmas period from mid-November to mid-January.
