Petrol prices from filling stations across the country are set to be raised from midnight on Tuesday, it has emerged.
The carbon tax increase will be one of the most controversial measures in Budget 2020 – but there may be some reprieve on domestic fuel such as home-heating oil, briquettes and coal.
Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe may hold off on increases to those products until 2020 amid fears about the impact on families and pensioners as we head into the winter months, according to the Irish Independent.
The carbon tax hasn’t gone up since 2014 and is set at €20 per tonne for now – but it’s expected to go up by up to €6 or €7 this year.
Fuel prices will go up by around 2c per litre from where they sit at 144.7c for petrol and 134.4c for diesel for now.
