Listen: O’Reilly ‘delighted’ as Aodh Ruadh stay in the mix

AODH RUADH mentor Philip O’Reilly says the Erne men are delighted to be still standing in the Intermediate Championship.

Although leading by three points at one stage during an absorbing contest in a Glenfin deluge, Aodh Ruadh needed a point late in extra time from Philip Patton to secure a semi-final replay.

“All in all, a draw was probably a fair result,” O’Reilly told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“They’ll be disappointed that they didn’t stick at least one goal away whereas we didn’t have those chances. I can see how they’d be more disappointed, but we’re delighted to be still in it.”

O’Reilly has called on the Competitions Controls Committee (CCC) to put the final back a week and allow the semi-final replay take place next weekend.

He said: “After playing 80 minutes there, in those conditions, to ask them to go out on Wednesday would be unfair.  To put them out on Wednesday and ask a team to play on Sunday would be unfair. It would make a joke of the Championship.”
