Brothers fined after threatening and abusing Gardai on drunken night out

October 7, 2019

Two brothers who returned home to Donegal from America and London have been fined after a drunken night out in Letterkenny.

The cases of brothers Denis and Sean Friel were heard at Letterkenny District Court today.

The court was told that at 3.40am on August 8th last there was a verbal argument involving a number of men at Upper Main Street.

When Gardai tried to intervene, both brothers became aggressive and threatened Gardai.

Both Sean, aged, 35, and Denis, aged 38, were drunk and were staggering about.

They were arrested and taken to Letterkenny Garda station where they were charged with public order offences.

Both men were represented by solicitor Patsy Gallagher who said both worked abroad and were hard-working men who had returned on holiday and had too much drink taken.

He said Denis Friel had no previous convictions and ran a construction company in America and returned home about four times a year.

Sean Friel had one previous conviction for public order and lives in London where he was a labourer.

Judge Paul Kelly ordered both men to make a donation of €250 to the Letterkenny Community and Youth Group and he would not record a conviction against the brothers.
