Morning traffic mayhem for Letterkenny motorists

Letterkenny motorists were hit by lengthy traffic delays this Monday morning as roadworks continue in the Oldtown area.

Traffic lights are being introduced at the roundabout at Lower Main Street/Oldtown this week in the next phase of Irish Water works.

And the new system caused tailbacks in all directions approaching the area before 9am. School traffic and people travelling to work and appointment were caught in traffic which was backed up along the Rahan Road, Lismonaghan and as far back at Leck Graveyard during the rush hour.

And motorists who attempted to avoid the Oldtown area were also caught in traffic on the Leck Road and routes approaching the Polestar.

A three-way traffic light system will be in operation at Lower Main Street for the next week to approx 10 days.

Irish Water has confirmed that the next set of traffic lights will be manually operated during working and peak hours (Monday-Sunday).

Irish Water has confirmed that no works will be allowed in the area during the peak Christmas period from mid-November to mid-January.
