Advice on personal and financial safety will be shared among Donegal communities during a free roadshow series next week.
This October, Donegal residents are encouraged to attend the Community Health and Safety Roadshows planned for four locations across the county.
The Donegal Public Participation Network (PPN) is convening a Community Health and Safety Roadshow which will visit four venues across Donegal next month. The roadshow series will be part of Donegal’s long-running Social Inclusion Week, and will give members of the public, especially older citizens, a forum in which to discuss ways to stay safe and well in our community.
The PPN roadshows began on Monday 7th October in CDP Na Rosann, Chapel Road, Dungloe from 11am to 3pm, moving to Letterkenny Public Services Centre on Tuesday 8th October from 6pm to 9pm. Lifford then plays host on 14th from 11am to 3pm in Clonleigh Family Resource Centre, and the roadshow finishes in Inver Community Centre on 21st from 7pm to 9pm.
The Community Health & Safety Roadshow, led by Mary Clyde of Donegal PPN and Eve Curran, Community Banker with Ulster Bank, brings together community representatives and advisers from the Gardaí, Road Safety Authority and Community group leaders, as well as giving advice on fraud scams, legal information to safeguard finances /estate (wills, Power of Attorney etc.) and guidance on personal health.
There will be plenty of opportunities to speak to the panellists and chat among fellow citizens on all the issues related with keeping safe and leading a healthy lifestyle in Donegal.
Eve Curran, Community Banker with Ulster Bank explained: “As part of my role, I receive a lot of requests from customers and from Community Groups, schools and businesses for advice on issues like financial capability, how to budget and save, and how to take control of your finances to safeguard it for the future. So, it was a privilege to be invited to join the PPN Roadshows around Donegal.
“At Ulster Bank we are committed to helping customers to avoid fraudsters and keep their money safe. To that end, the ‘Friends Against Scams’ training programme is being rolled out around Ireland by Ulster Bank to help organisations to train staff and spread the anti-fraud message. All staff have now received ‘Friends Against Scams’ training to raise awareness on how our customers and citizens can educate and protect themselves.”
Mary Clyde from the Donegal Public Participation Network said: “We are really looking forward to getting out around the County and connecting Donegal residents with our team of expert advisers. I know our community groups and individuals have really enjoyed previous presentations given by Eve, and attendees have benefitted from learning more about how to manage their finances. In particular, the worrying increase in frauds and scams was of huge concern to our Older Person’s Groups so anything we can do to educate ourselves is welcome.
“Eve and I really want to encourage as many people as possible to come along and speak with us.”
The event is free to attend and walk-ins are welcome, but reserving a spot is recommended and easy to do by emailing mary.clyde@donegalcoco or eve.c.curran@ulsterbank.com.
