Donegal customers warned over fake An Post TV licence email scam

An Post customers have been warned to stay on high alert over a fake email scam.

The bogus message contains a link to a phishing website that steals payment card details.

Several people have reported finding the messages in their inbox, claiming to come from An Post.

The subject of the email states: “Your TV Licence is about to expire.”

A link is supplied in the body of the email leading to a US-based phishing website, where customers are asked to fill in their card details, allowing the criminals to steal them.

Computer security experts ESET Ireland recommend ignoring the email and marking it as spam, as well as ensuring not to click any links within it.

The full text of the scam email is below:

“Dear customer;

“We hope you enjoy your TV Licence. We would like to inform you that your annual subscription expires in 6 days.

“We’d love to keep you as a customer, and there is still time to complete your subscription. Simply click on the link to renew your subscription.

“If you have any questions or feedback, contact our support service to learn more.

“Regards

“Customer Department”
