Man crashed into two cars after being blinded by a light

A man claimed he crashed into two cars after being temporarily blinded by a light from behind while driving.

Niall Monaghan, from Newtowncunningham, appeared at Letterkenny District Court, charged with dangerous driving.

The court heard that on November 6th last year Monaghan was driving his Peugeot car to Letterkenny.

Defence solicitor Rory O’Brien said his client looked in his rear-view mirror but was blinded by a light which sent him veering across the road into another two cars.

Garda Sgt Jim Collins said the other two people involved in the accident had to receive minor treatment in hospital.

Judge Paul Kely reduced the charge on Monaghan of Castleforward, Newtowncuningham to one of careless driving an fined him €150.
