McNamee’s fortuitous winner brings Derry close to European spot

BARRY MCNAMEE was on the scoresheet last night as Derry City moved to within a point of European qualification.

A 2-1 win over Sligo Rovers means that Derry will seal a European spot with a draw against St Patrick’s Athletic on Tuesday night at the Brandywell.

Derry had to come from behind last night as Lewis Banks fired home in the 13th minute.

City drew level when Jamie McDonagh superbly volleyed past Ed McGinty from the edge of the box.

Derry scored what proved to be the winner when McNamee profited from an error by McGinty, whose clearance rebounded in off the Ramelton man.

Ciaran Coll played the 90 minutes for Derry while Aidy Delap appeared as a late substitute.

Sligo included Kyle McFadden from the start while Johnny Dunleavy came on for the last ten minutes.
