Calls for pressure to remain on Moville Community College project

Fianna Fáil TD for Donegal, Charlie McConalogue says he will continue to keep pressure on the Department of Education to ensure works at Moville Community College are progressed as speedily as possible.

The Donegal TD raised the matter in Dáil Éireann through a Parliamentary Question and was told by the Minister for Education and Skills, Joe McHugh TD, that he was conscious of this project and the efforts of the local community to help progress it.

In reply to Deputy McConalgue’s query, the Minister said the provision of a standalone extension project for the school has been devolved for delivery to Donegal Education and Training Board (DETB) and a new architect has been recently appointed.

The Minister added that the new architect has recently provided a revised Stage 2A submission, intended to address a number of issues with the initial design and provide for improved new building layouts.

Deputy McConalgue was told that Department officials are currently reviewing this submission and are also reviewing recommendations of a report recently provided to the Department, following surveys to investigate issues with the school’s main existing building.

While the Minister has said that his Department will respond to Donegal Education and Training Board shortly, Deputy McConalogue has pledged to ensure the matter is kept high on the agenda.

He said: “In response to my query, the Minister has informed me his Department officials have a number of documents to review and says they will work closely with DETB to ensure all oustanding issues are resolved.

“I will also be closely monitoring the situation to make sure this happens and will keep pressure on the Department to ensure everything can be quickly put in order to allow for the submission of a planning application shortly,” Deputy McConalogue concluded.
