Gardaí are investigating the burglary of a pensioner’s home in Lifford on Friday night.
The incident occurred at Croaghan Heights on Gallows Lane near the town centre, where an elderly woman’s home was broken into and ransacked as the thief, or thieves, searched for cash.
The woman was fortunately not home on the night, as she has been unwell and was staying with her sister.
No money was taken in the incident and no other items were stolen.
The burglary has left the family badly shaken and they are warning other Lifford residents to look out for their neighbours.
“Keep an eye out for the old folk who could be vulnerable and make sure they’re safe. God knows what would have happened if Mum was at home,” said a family member.
Gardaí have launched an investigation into the break-in.
