Listen: McGinley says Finn Harps need a big push after ‘kick in the teeth’

Finn Harps goalkeeper Mark Anthony McGinley described last night’s defeat in Drogheda as ‘a kick in the teeth’.

Chris Lyons’ 92nd minute goal gave Drogheda United first blood in the promotion-relegation play-off, with Harps now needing a win in the second leg at Finn Park on Friday.

Harps were on their way to a scoreless draw until Lyons popped up to win the opening leg right at the death.

“We defended well, but it’s disappointing to concede at the end,” McGinley told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“It was a kick in the teeth.”

Harps did create a couple of chances to draw level, but it’s Drogheda who have the slender advantage.

However, McGinley insists that Harps aren’t too despondent.

He said: “It’s not over. The thing was to stay in the tie and not shoot ourselves in the foot. We’re still well in it. We need a big push now on Friday night.”
