Listen: ‘I looked up and I just fancied it’ – John O’Malley

JOHN O’Malley’s name – and winning point – will be the stuff of fireside talk in Glenties for eternity.

After 199 minutes, the 2019 Donegal SFC – well into its third instalment – was level as Naomh Conaill and Gaoth Dobhair were deadlocked.

Enter O’Malley.

In the first meeting, on Sunday-week last, O’Malley went for a late winner, but tailed an effort wide.

Tonight, he got his angles right as he kicked what proved to be the score that finally separated the teams.

“I’d have been in some bother if it hadn’t gone over,” a delighted O’Malley told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“I looked up and I just fancied it. We just needed to be brave and attack. That last day we were a bit too safe, so that was going through my head.”
