CIARÁN Thompson, the Naomh Conaill captain, was ‘ecstatic’ as he led his side to county final glory last night.

At the third time of asking, Naomh Conaill prevailed by the skins of their teeth as they defeated Gaoth Dobhair, the defending champions, 0-8 to 0-7, bringing to an end an epic trilogy.

“I can’t describe how I feel,” Thompson told Ocean FM’s Paddy McGill.

“It’s absolutely unbelievable to finally get over the steps after three titanic battles. One final push and we got over the line.

“To take Gaoth Dobhair over three games is no mean feat. I’m delighted. I’m ecstatic. I can’t get over how happy I am to finally lift (Dr) Maguire.”
