Council urged to reintroduce bus service to Letterkenny’s Long Lane

The council have been urged to reintroduce the town bus service to Long Lane by the areas residents association.

The committee of The Long Lane Area Residents Association said the bus had been journeying to the top of Long Lane before it was cancelled several years ago.

Chairperson, Finn O Donnell said told Donegal Daily: “We have many older residents up at the top of Long Lane in the Fairgreen and Ard Na Ri estates and they struggle to make it up the steep road.

“People also struggle financially with paying for taxies. There are also mothers with prams who struggle up the Lane. With a re-introduction of the town bus, these residents could avail of the bus service.”

Mr O Donnell went to say: “The bus stop signs are still there at both the bottom and top of Long Lane. The diverted route would only add a few extra minutes off the original route and it will bring some extra money to the bus service so it is really a no brainer.”

It is understood that local county councillor, Jimmy Kavanagh, had informed the residents’ committee that a review of the route will happen this year as the current route does not seem to be working and Long Lane has been included in its review.
