‘Jim Bob from Japan’ given 14-day prison sentence

November 5, 2019

A 39-year-old man from Malin has been given a 14-day prison sentence after being found lying on the road by Gardaí.

Sean McDaid, of Bunn, Culkenny, Malin, was before Letterkenny District Court on charges following the incident on July 29, 2018.

Gardaí received a report of a man lying on the road.

McDaid was asked for his name by Gardaí and replied ‘Jim Bob’ and gave his address as ‘Japan’.

McDaid has been in custody since September 30.

Patsy Gallagher, solicitor for McDaid, said his client had some difficulty with alcohol and had fallen through the cracks.

“He accepts that he was drunk and he has no recollection of it,” Mr Gallagher said.

“He consumed a number of prescriptive medications and alcohol on the day.”

Judge Paul Kelly sentenced McDaid to 14 days imprisonment, back-dating the term to October 21.
