A Donegal woman will hike 5,000 metres to Everest Base Camp in aid of charity in memory of her late grandmother.

Glenda McGinty is taking on the arduous climb to raise money in support of United Against Dementia following her grandmother battle with the disease.

The Letterkenny woman has set-up a JustGiving Page with the aim of raising nearly €5000 for Alzheimer’s Society.

Speaking online, Glenda said: “My whole world fell apart the day my granny passed away with Alzheimer’s.

“She was my rock and my best friend. The most amazing and selfless woman.

“And in a few weeks, before she passed away, I made a promise I’d do something amazing in her memory.

“What better way could I do this than do one of the world’s toughest treks for this charity? So granny, this one is for you.”
