SHANE McGinty commended Kildrum Tigers’ game management as the St Johnston side reached the last 32 of the FAI Junior Cup.

Matthew Crossan and Kevin McHugh hit the goals as Kildrum defeated Blackrock 2-0 at Station Road Park in the round of 64.

“We were expecting them to be a top side and they were,” McGinty told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“We got it right. We were very good and we thoroughly deserved the win in the end.

“We set up to be first and foremost hard to break down. We held on very well. We could have added more. Overall, I’m very, very happy with our performance.”

Crossan netted after only two minutes and McHugh added a second in part two.

Kildrum were content to sit on their lot and McGinty added: “We sat in and we almost said to Blackrock: ‘Break us down if you can’. Game management is a big thing nowadays. At 2-0 up, I wasn’t bothered about a third, I just wanted to progress in the tie.”
