Gardai are investigating a burglary in Letterkenny while the couple was asleep in the house.

Three men, all dressed in black, broke into the house at Hawthorn Heights at 5.50pm on Friday afternoon last.

The residents had been having a nap as they had been up late the previous night.

The gang entered the house by an open window but woke the couple.

The couple came across two men dressed in black in the hallway of the house and the gang fled through a back patio door.

A third man, also dressed in black, was outside the house.

The gang are believed to have fled empty-handed and on foot.

Garda Charlene Anderson said although nothing was taken in the raid, the couple were left shaken by their ordeal.

“It’s a huge trauma for someone. That sense of security is removed and you no longer feel that sense of security again,” she said.

She appealed to people to keep windows and doors locked even when they are in the house.
