Gardai issue new appeal after car break-ins during mass

Gardai have reiterated their appeal following a break-in to four cars parked outside a church in Letterkenny last Friday.

Three of the four cars which were parked outside the Church of the Irish Martyrs had valuables stolen.

The thieves smashed windows while 9.30am mass was on.

Gardai say they are particularly interested in establishing the movements of a black VW Scirocco car that was observed in the area at the time with two males on board.

A spokesperson said “If anyone observed this car or can offer any information that might assist in any way with the investigation- then we ask them to call Letterkenny Gardaí on 074 9167100 or the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111.

“We would also like to advise people in relation to leaving personal belongings in their car. Please do not leave anything of value in your car.

“The people who carry out crimes such as these could be close by and observe you hiding your handbag under the seat or wherever you choose to conceal it and they then know that there is something of value in the car.

“Take your valuables with you or leave them in a safe place at home.”
