The Long Lane Area Residents Association in Letterkenny successfully held their first Christmas event this year.

The event itself was held in the Doorway Project last Tuesday, where a Santa’s grotto was in place for the children to come and meet Santa. There was also a special guest from the film frozen.

Olef had also made an appearance for the children. There was also a children’s party area with sweet treats, Christmas music and juice along with tea, coffee and biscuits for the parents.

Chairperson, Finn O Donnell said “We couldn’t have planned for a better event this year. It was such a great party and we had a great turn out of residents who came along with their children who really enjoyed it. I am extremely aware of how hard it can be for parents at Christmas, so holding this very local and free event for the kids was our way of helping our community as well as bring people together. I cannot thank our committee member enough and the local businesses for chipping in and helping out.”

A raffle was also held at the event which raised €450 for the residents association that will go directly back into the Long Lane.

Committee member, Karen Mc Cafferty said “It’s been an amazing party and the funds raised now can go into projects that we will discuss after the new year. Our committee member will sit down and talk about what will be the next step now regard the funds we have raised.”

Vice-chair, Gerry Mc Garrigle stated “The Long Lane Residents Committee was originally formed just a few months ago on August 7th. Since then, the committee has carried out community clean-ups, campaigned successfully to urge council to bring the town bus back to Long Lane, held a previous Halloween party, joined other associated organisations and now, held the successful Christmas party. We have seen a huge rise of people wanting to join the group and it isn’t foolish to say that everyone knows about the Long Lane Are Residents Association now.”

The group will be holding their next residents’ meeting after the New Year to continue with their work on the Long Lane with other various projects and ideas for the are.
