DECLAN BONNER was pleased to get the new season off and winning with a narrow win over Monaghan today.
Donegal had to dig deep having fallen five down in the opening period.
“With a lot of young lads I thought we were a bit at sea at 0-7 to 0-2 down, but we got back into it towards the end of the first half,” Bonner told Ocean FM’s Paddy McGill afterwards.
“There were two points in it at half-time and we probably should have had a goal. The second half was very promising until the last three or four minutes.”
Donegal finished with 13 men as Brendan McCole was sent off and Michael Langan was sin-binned.
Bonner said: “I thought it was a match we deserved to win in the second half.”
“There’s a lot of new lads got game time for the first time as well, which is what it’s all about. January 25th is on our minds in terms of the start of the National League campaign and we have to be ready for that, and it’s about giving guys game time in the build up to that.”
