Letterkenny University Hospital is joint-third on the list of the most overcrowded hospitals in the state today.
Forty-seven sick patients are waiting in the Emergency Department this Tuesday morning, according to the INMO.
Fifteen patients are waiting on trolleys, while 32 people are waiting for care in overflow wards.
Forty-seven people were also recorded on the ‘Trolley Watch’ at Cork University Hospital. University Hospital Limerick is Ireland’s most overcrowded hospital today, with 75 people on trolleys.
The Letterkenny University Hospital was extremely busy on Monday – the worst day ever for overcrowding across all of Ireland’s hospitals.
The Full Capacity Protocol has been implemented at the hospital and all efforts continue to be made to identify patients who are appropriate for discharge.
Other actions underway in the hospital to alleviate the waiting times for patients requiring hospital admission include additional reviews and deferral of elective non-urgent procedures.
A spokesperson for LUH last night said: “We are committed to treating everyone who presents at our ED but we do so strictly in order of medical priority and apologise for the long wait times currently.”
