Extra warning signs to be placed at dangerous crossroads

Donegal County Council is set to place advance warning signs at a busy crossroads in Letterkenny following a number of recent accidents.

The junction between Leck/Cullion/Bonagee at Letterkenny Ready Mix has been described as “extremely dangerous” by local Cllr Donal Coyle.

Cllr Coyle told the Letterkenny-Milford District council that a lack of warning and stop signs is leading motorists to drive straight through the crossroads.

“Over the last number of months there has been a number of serious accidents on this road,” Cllr Coyle said. He said that it is fortunate that there have been no fatalities, “but there could have easily been.”

Cllr Coyle pointed out that two stop signs are in place at the junction, but there is no signage to say there is a crossroads ahead. He added that line markings do not last long with the volume of heavy traffic and machinery on the route.

In a reply, the council said that recent upgrading of line markings and improvement of vision lines was carried out at this junction. Additional advance warning signage will be erected presently.
