24/7 Triathlon Club are putting on 3 major races in the lead up to the summer of 2020.

Triathlons is a multi-sport that features swimming, cycling and running is growing in popularity in the North West region and the Letterkenny based club is only to happy to meet the growing need for competitions.

The events will be open to all and those of different skill levels will be catered for. Try-a-Tri (& Super Sprint*) which is aimed at beginners, will take place April 26. It’s a pool-based race taking place on the flattest course of any race in Donegal. The race includes a 200m swim (8 lengths), 13km cycle (toward Newmills and back) and flat run (3.5km)

On June 27 The Sheephaven Half billed as ‘the most spectacular triathlon race in Ireland’ is a short and simple. Based from Downings this is known as the mother and father of all races at this ‘middle-distance’ length featuring a 1.9km swim, 90k bike, 21.1k run. This race has been quite popular in triathlon circles attracting hundreds from around the country.

The Gartan Sprint is due to take place July 11. Probably one of the most unique races in Ireland it will be set against the backdrop of Glenveagh National Park. One of the best-established races in the North-West, now it’s 11th year. It consists of a 750 fresh-water lake-swim, a 20k around Churchill & Glendowan, finished with a flat 5k run around the shore of Lough Gartan making for suberb setting!

Always in big demand, this race has a loyal following for good reason. In recent years the event switched from Olympic to sprint which, in addition to it being a great race for existing triathletes, it makes it a perfect first ‘open-water’ race for those beginners looking to take the next step.

All events are booked through the Triathlon Ireland website (www.triathlonireland.com). For more information on these events or training with the club, contact Facebook page (‘Letterkenny TriathlonClub’).
