Speed limit review for part of new Letterkenny-Kilmacrennan road

A Road Safety Audit is set to be carried out at a problematic section of the new Letterkenny-Kilmacrennan road.

It comes as local Cllr John O’Donnell highlighted the difficulties faced by commuters at the Leiter junction due to high speeds.

The Letterkenny-Milford Mayor has called for the speed limit to be reduced to 60kmh at this stretch of road at JD Car Sales yard.

In reducing the speed, Cllr O’Donnell said he hoped that people could use the road and “their heart isn’t in their mouth when they are travelling.”

The council responded to confirm that the speed limits on this new section of road were set to reflect the design speed of the road. Due to the concerns raised, a Stage 4 Road Safety Audit has been recommended to review the appropriateness of the speed limit.
