Listen: Gibson and Bonagee look forward to ‘showcase’ Cup tie

JASON GIBSON says Sunday’s FAI Intermediate Cup game against College Corinthians is a chance for his Bonagee United too ‘showcase’ themselves.

The Munster Senior League side travel to Donegal on Saturday ahead of their last 16 game at Dry Arch Park on Sunday (kick-off 12 noon).

Bonagee have already secured a spot in the first round of the 2020 FAI Senior Cup and an Intermediate quarter-final berth is up for grabs on Sunday in the high noon showdown.

“It’s good to get to this stage of the competition,” Gibson told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“It’s a big day for the club. It’s the first time at this stage so it’s a chance to showcase ourselves.”

Michéal Doherty is out for Sunday’s game following the knee injury he sustained last Sunday in the 1-1 League draw against Letterkenny, while Emmet Friel is rated as ’50-50’. Gibson also has to plan without new signings Niall Grace and Keenan Diver, who are both unavailable.

The Bonagee boss expects a stern challenge from Corinthians.

He said: “There is a strong focus in their ranks on this competition; maybe a wee bit different from our group. They’re going to be a tough opposition, if we mark it against Midleton who came here last year and were better than us.”

Gibson is hoping that the early kick-off time will mean a big crowd will be in attendance at the game.
