DONEGAL Under-20s were denied progression to the final of the Leo Murphy Under-20 League following a high-scoring draw in Mayo.

Mayo 2-9 Donegal 3-6

Mayo will go through to the final after they hit two points late in the game at Ballyhaunis.

Mayo were 0-6 to 0-2 ahead at half-time with Padraig McGettigan and Peter McEniff registering the points.

A Jack Mahon goal from a penalty put Mayo ahead, but Aaron Doherty’s penalty at the other end had Donegal back on track.

Mahon netted a second Mayo goal, but when Ronan Frain struck gold for Donegal, it was very much game on.

Jamie McNicholas, the Mayo goalkeeper, saved a Doherty penalty as Donegal laid siege.

Eight minutes from the end, Ryan Brogan drew Donegal level when he hit his team’s third goal.

McEniff and Doherty pointed as SP Barrett’s men hit the front for the first time, but Mayo struck late to scrape into the final.

Donegal scorers: Ronan Frain, Aaron Doherty (1-0 pen) 1-1 each, Ryan Brogan 1-0, Peter McEniff 0-2, Padraig McGettigan, Caolan McGroddy 0-1 each
