Gardaí are appealing to the public to help find two men who were caught on CCTV attacking a garda patrol car.

Windscreen wipers were broken and a door was kicked in on a Hyundai patrol car while it was parked outside a Letterkenny diner.

The incident occurred outside Charlie’s Cafe on Pearse Road Letterkenny last Thursday 16th January between 4.15pm and 4.30pm.

Two men were seen on CCTV causing notable damage to the vehicle – one man attempted to break off the windscreen wipers while the other male kicked the passenger side door. They made their getaway on foot, running off in opposite directions.

Gardaí have released a description of the suspects. One man was wearing a black hoodie with a white logo on the hood, blue jeans and white runners. The second man wore dark blue jeans, a grey jacket, white runners and he had tight shaved hair (with a small bit of hair on top) and a dark beard.

Sergeant Paul Wallace issued the community appeal for information today, highlighting that patrol cars are “a valuable resource to any policing”.

Anyone with any information that may assist with the investigation is asked to contact Letterkenny Garda Station 074-9167100 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
