Jobs boost: 400 new jobs planned at call centre in Inishowen

Up to 400 jobs are planned for Inishowen with the planned establishment of a new call centre.

The centre, proposed by business Pat ‘Big Hill’ Doherty, will be located at Ballymacarry in Buncrana on the site of the old Fruit of the Loom factory.

The Inishowen Independent reports that Mr Doherty has applied to Donegal County Council to convert the old building into a new call centre.

The old centre is around 20,000 sq feet and the centre is due to accommodate up to 400 jobs when fully up and running.

The application to the council is in the name of Patrick Doherty of Xanadu Developments Ltd.

The new jobs will be widely welcomed across Buncrana and Inishowen which was hit badly by the closure of Fruit of the Loom in the early 1990s.

The plan has been given a cautious welcome by Independent county councillor Nicholas Crossan who said it was “brilliant news” if it goes ahead.
