Connacht Ulster Alliance Research Symposium a resounding success

Two LYIT postgraduate students have scooped top awards at the Connacht-Ulster Alliance (CUA) Research Symposium.

Over 220 delegates and 60 speakers attended the conference in the Sligo Park Hotel on 16 and 17 January 2020, organised by Dr Shirley Wrynn, GMIT CUA Project Manager, and the GMIT Research Office.

Some incredible research, including 110 posters, was unveiled at the two-day event by academics, researchers and postgraduate students in the three CUA institutes of Letterkenny Institute of Technology (LYIT), Galway-Mayo IT (GMIT) and IT Sligo.

A series of feature articles and podcasts will be published over the next few months in relation to the conference #CUAresearch 

Two LYIT postgraduate students (pictured below) scooped top accolades at the event, Chris McElheny who won Best Presentation for his presentation, titled ‘Determination of bio-available trace cadmium and zinc in soil using a nano-porous modified screen-printed electrode’ and Laura McDaid for her poster, titled ‘Determination of cadmium in fava beans using a novel electrochemical detection method’.
