Listen: Neil McGee still relishing the ‘competitive games’

NEIL McGee played his 180th Donegal game in Navan yesterday – and the Gaoth Dobhair man’s hunger is as good as ever.

McGee, Donegal’s record appearance holder, earlier than he has been in recent years.

“I came back, did the testing and the body was in good enough shape,” the 2012 All-Ireland winner told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub after the win over Meath in Pairc Tailteann.

“I got back into it straight away. I enjoy playing games. It’s hard to beat competitive games, particularly going away to provincial grounds like this with a good atmosphere.”

Away wins have been scarce for Donegal in Division 1 over the last decade – but Declan Bonner’s men were comfortable winners in Meath.

The Gaoth Dobhair man said: “When you go away – our away form hasn’t been good – the key is not conceding goals. Shaun didn’t have a save to make the whole game, so we have to be happy with that. The work is from Michael back to Shaun; everyone is working hard. It wasn’t perfect, but the work-rate is there.”
