TWELVE senior Cranford AC athletes made the arduous journey to Abbottstown athletic arena Dublin for the Ulster & Northern Ireland Indoor athletic Championships.
After early starts and long journeys the Cranford athletes demonstrated their determination by performing to the best of their abilities.
And an early start for Teresa Mullan provided great entertainment and club enthusiasm in her U16 girls long jump demonstrating her commitment and strength to become Ulster Champion with a jump of 4.91m, a great start to the day by Teresa.
Amy Cullen from Carrick again provided an exciting competition by gaining two U14 Ulster medals today gaining a bronze medal in long jump and 60 m. Ellie McFadden also competed in these competitions but just missed out on the medal positions by coming a very close 4th place in both long jump and 60m sprint. Lots more to come from Ellie in the outdoor season.
The U14 800m had our two athletes in the boys and girls events pitted against the best in Ulster, Caolan McFadden did not disappoint and came home the easy gold medalist in his 800m event. Miah Fletcher put in a fine performance to finish in silver medal place.
Also competing on the Saturday was Orla Neely in the shot who threw well to throw 8.14m to gain and a new Personal best, again we are expecting great things from Oral in the upcoming outdoor season.
Killian Caldwell ran well in the U 12 boys 600m and competed well in the long jump and earned valuable experience with his first indoor competition.
Sunday saw another fine performance from Oisin kelly who stormed home in his U17 1500m event, a well deserved gold medal for Oisin. Oran McMenamin also performed well in this event coming home in 7th place.
Clodagh Neely showed great determination today in her long jump getting a personal best and also performing well in her 800m event to finish a very respectable 7th place in Ulster, well done Clodagh. Jessica Cullen was entered for this event however unfortunately Jessica took ill and was unable to compete.
Aoife Giles showed her experience in this event gaining a valuable ulster silver medal in the shot with throw of over 10m.
