The tallies have been completed and it shows a runaway success for Sinn Fein.
In fact, their candidates, Pearse Doherty and Padraig Mac Lochlainn, have accounted for almost 45% of the entire vote.
Doherty has polled a staggering 20,909 votes (27.09%) while Mac Lochlainn polled an impressive 13,808 (17.88%).
The Sinn Fein vote is up from 27% in the last election in 2016 to 45% on this occasion.
Charlie McConlaogue has polled 8,322 (10.78%) of the vote while Pat the Cope Gallagher polled 7,523 (9.75%).
Fianna Fail has gone from 31% in 2016 to 21% (15,845 votes) this time around.
Fine Gael’s vote form the last general election has remained more or less the same with Joe McHugh and Martin Harley pulling 10,647 votes (14%) compared to 11,155 votes in 2016 when Paddy Harte Jnr was a late running mate with Joe McHugh.
Thomas Pringle is still in the running depending on how transfers go with 5,459 votes (7.07%) while Kilmacrennan man John O’Donnell has also polled well in his first outing with 4,741 votes (6.14%).
Mary T Sweeney of Aontu polled 2,373 votes (3.07%) while Green Party candidate Michael White said he was happy with his showing on his first outing with 1,646 votes (2.13%).
Peter Casey has been disappointing in his showing with just 1,142 first preference votes (1.48%) in the tally while Independent Niall McConnell pulled in 565 votes (0.73%) and Arthur McGuinness from Moville polling 61 votes (0.08%).
