Two young men were forced to lock themselves in a bathroom to protect themselves from burglars who smashed into their home.

The frightening incident took place at a house in Burwood Buncrana on Thursday night/Friday  morning,

The young men, a resident of the house and his friend, were playing video games when two men allegedly smashed a window and forced their way into the house. One of the intruders was reportedly in possession of a baseball bat.

The young men fled upstairs to lock themselves in an en-suite bathroom. They hid in the bathroom until gardaí arrived, but the burglars fled the scene.

Gardaí are now investigating the incident and appealing for the assistance of the public.

If anyone was in the area of Burwood between 00.30am and 1.30am on the morning of 7th February and can assist Gardaí with their enquiries please contact Buncrana Garda Station on 0749320540 or the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111.
