TYRONE McCullagh will face Ryan Walsh on Friday night in the Golden Contract semi-final.
McCullagh (14-0, 6KOs) and Walsh (25-2-2, 12KOs) square off in one of the featherweight semis.
Walsh drew a Golden Ball giving him the pick of opponent and he opted for McCullagh.
“I have chosen Tyrone because I think stylistically we have worked more against his style, so we will see how it all plans out,” Walsh said.
McCullagh, a former Illies Golden Gloves amateur, is coached by Pete Taylor, is the WBO European Super-Bantamweight title holder.
“One hundred per cent, I’m confident in my own ability,” McCullagh said.
“I’m glad I got picked. I didn’t want the golden ball but Ryan is a great fighter and I’m looking forward to a great fight, nothing but respect, its gonna be a great fight.”
Leigh Wood – who trained in Sheffield alongside Jason Quigley with both were with Dominic Ingle – fights Jazza Dickens in the second featherweight semi-final.
MTK Global Professional Development Coordinator Jamie Conlan said: “Tyrone McCullagh is an enigma.
“People may think they know what he’s going to do, but I don’t even think he knows what he’s going to do.
“He’s with Pete Taylor now and is more seasoned and honed in, so I think it’s a tough pick from Ryan Walsh.”Tags:
